Bodega Dunes campground

We spent the weekend at Bodega Dunes campground, part of Sonoma Coast State Beach.  We haven't been camping in our trailer since October and we wanted to get out there.

Bodega Dunes is just north of Bodega Bay.  There are hiking trails from the campground that go to the beach and over the dunes which are extensive.  For many of the trails, you share the trail with horses so we were selective about the trails we took.  On the first day, we went to the beach for sunset.

Thsi day had the best sunset of the weekend.  On Friday, we explored trails south of the campground in both the state park and the county park, Doran Regional Park.

The trail from Bodega Head took us to a vista that allowed a 360 degree view around the bay.

On Saturday, we went north along the coast to explore some trails in Sonoma Coast State Beach, of which there are many.  Some are short, like Goat Rock, and others are longer, like the Kortum Trail.  You could hike for days and enjoy beaches, gulches, and bluffs.

We met another couple, Art and Kathy, who also have an Escape trailer and we enjoyed discussing all things Escape and more.  Another couple from Grass Valley, CA, joined us for Saturday afternoon to see Escapes as they are considering purchasing one.

We stayed in the Bodega Dunes campground which is within walking distance of Bodega Bay.

This campground has nice spacing between sites with lots of shady spots and a few sunny ones.  There are no hookups but there are flush toilets and hot coin operated showers.  There is a dump station.  We got good Verizon reception.

There are other campgrounds in the area.  The county park has two, Westside and Doran Beach.  If you want to be right on the water and don't mind being too close to your neighbors, you might want to try them.  We prefer being a little away from the ocean where the breeze is much less.  There is also a very popular state park campground, Wright's Beach, where you are right on the water.  And there are several private campgrounds with full hookups and more closely spaced sites.

We enjoyed our 3-day weekend and meeting new friends, and we plan to go here again for short stays.
